Universal Uclick Celebrates 15th Anniversary of “World of Wonder”

(September 1, 2015) Kansas City, Mo. – Universal Uclick is celebrating the 15th anniversary of Laurie Triefeldt’s World of Wonder.

First published in Springfield, Massachusetts’s “News Republican,” on Sept. 1, 2000, World of Wonder uses sophisticated graphics to explore the realms of history, science, nature and technology.

In 2002 and 2006, World of Wonder won a Distinguished Achievement Award for Excellence in Educational Publishing from the Association of Educational Publishers. In 2007, World of Wonder received the National Cartoonists Society's award for Best Newspaper Illustration.

“Knowing that World of Wonder has touched the lives of so many students (young and old) over the years has given me an enormous sense of accomplishment,” Triefeldt said. “Fifteen years of researching and illustrating more than 700 topics has allowed me to educate myself, along with my readers. World of Wonder never gets boring for me, and finding fresh topics and new ways to approach old favorites is a challenge I am looking forward to for many years to come.”

An award-winning graphic journalist, Triefeldt’s reader-friendly style and beautiful, full-color illustrations give readers mini-lessons on such diverse topics as storms, Utah, chemistry, monarch butterflies, Vikings and jellyfish.

Triefeldt was born and educated in Toronto, Canada, and is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and the University of Windsor. During a journalism career that has spanned more than 20 years, Triefeldt has worked for The Star-Ledger, The Courier Post and The Windsor Star. She has also contributed to Gannett News Service, Newhouse News Service and United Media. Triefeldt has written and illustrated three books based on her newspaper feature: "World of Wonder," published by Kean University and The Star-Ledger; "Plants and Animals," published by Quill Driver Press; and "People and Places," also published by Quill Driver Press.
