Universal Uclick Celebrates 25th Anniversary of “Overboard” Comic Strip

(July 22, 2015) – Kansas City, Mo. Universal Uclick is excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Overboard comic strip this month.

Making its debut on July 22, 1990, Chip Dunham’s Overboard explores the sensitive side of plundering and pillaging through the daily misadventures of its clever crew of malcontents, incompetents and laggards. Aided by their loyal canine companions and a well-organized army of mice, Captain Crow and his fierce band of pirates do battle on the high seas with rival pirates, sea monsters and sometimes each other.

“I feel so lucky to have been able to write and draw Overboard for all these years,” Dunham said. “I hope Overboard fans continue to enjoy the comic and tune in again tomorrow and the next day. (And a little warning to anyone who reads this – Try not to blink – because when you do, 25 years go by.)”

Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the popular comic strip, GoComics, from Universal Uclick, and Dunham have teamed up to bring Overboard fans a celebration featuring creator insight, giveaways and more on the GoComics blog (http://blogs.gocomics.com/chip-dunham/).

A Wisconsin native, Dunham began selling freelance cartoons to the then Milwaukee Journal during his 20s. He attended the University of Wisconsin, graduating with a degree in journalism in 1980. Taking a hiatus from cartooning to explore careers in reporting and commercial painting, Dunham returned to cartooning in 1989, when he developed Overboard, which earned a “Best Comic Strip” nomination from the National Cartoonists Society. He now lives in Detroit with his dog, Sam.
