Universal Uclick Celebrates 50th Anniversary of “The Born Loser” Comic Strip

Kansas City, Mo. (May 7, 2015) – Universal Uclick is excited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Born Loser comic strip this month.

Created by Art Sansom in 1965, The Born Loser features the everyday trials and tribulations of Brutus Thornapple. In 1977, Chip Sansom began apprenticing for his father on The Born Loser, gradually assuming a greater role in the production of the strip, until completely taking over when Art passed away in 1991.

“It is extremely gratifying that The Born Loser has remained popular with readers, new and old, for 50 years,” Chip Sansom said. “That is a testament to the great characters and timeless, universal premise my father, Art Sansom, created of The Born Loser as a contemporary Everyman, confronting the typical trials and tribulations of everyday life, at home and at work, that we all face. Thanks to him slipping on the banana peels of life for us, we can laugh at those frustrating situations. I am proud that I have been able to successfully carry on my dad’s legacy and continue to bring smiles to the faces of readers during their daily grind.”

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the iconic comic strip, GoComics, from Universal Uclick, and Chip Sansom have teamed up to bring The Born Loser fans a month-long celebration featuring creator insight, giveaways and more throughout May.
